Robbie Williams has agreed to publicly apologise to his ex manager, Nigel Martin-Smith, over accusatory lyrics in one of his songs. The track, The 90s, which features on last years Rudebox, suggested that Martin-Smith, who was his manager during the Take That years, was stealing money from the band.
Martin-Smith took out legal action with Williams now having to fork out up to £500,000 in damages, legal costs on top, and make a public apology. Williams re-recorded the vocals on The 90s after the initial lawsuit.
It’s understood Martin-Smith was prepared to waive the damages if Williams agreed to a face to face meeting. The Staffordshire clown prince of pop refused, preferring, it would seem, to pay in excess of half a million squid not to meet with his ex manager.
